The Launching of KLIS2012 and Media Conference

On 7th July 2011 at The Rootz Rooftop Lot 10 Kuala Lumpur, KLIS2012 has officially launched by Datuk Mukammad Sidek Khalid a Director of Culture, Art, Tourism and Sport DBKL.

For the first time, Malaysia will be host to a festival that will take its makers of the short film onto an international stage. The Kuala Lumpur International Short Film Festival 2012 (KLIS2012) will be held from the 30th of January to the 1st of February 2012 (Kuala Lumpur City Day), and will be co-sponsored by the Kuala Lumpur City Council.

KLIS2012 has also signed an agreement with Withoutabox, a subsidiary of Amazon.com, as well as with Los Angeles-based IMdB as festival promotion partners. Through this agreement, withoutabox.com will promote KLIS2012 through email to more than 350,000 film enthusiasts worldwide. This cooperation has proven to be a masterstroke, with over a hundred entries being submitted within a week of its announcement.

The most entries to date have come from the US followed by Venezuela, with others coming from Brazil, Sweden, Hungary, Netherlands, Italy, Philippines, Canada, Pakistan, United Kingdom, Australia, India, Singapore, Indonesia, Spain, Latvia, Colombia, France, Japan, China, Iran, Taiwan, Ireland, Bulgaria, Hong Kong, Ukraine, New Zealand and Greece.

There are four categories for submissions to the KLIS2012, namely the Short Film, Animation, Student and CSR categories. The CSR category is unique in that all submissions must address a global issue, with global warming and environmental issues being the most popular.

KLIS2012 is also supported by FINAS and UPM, who are working together to ensure the festival achieves international recognition and prestige.

Filmmakers and enthusiasts can view the films for free at the City Hall cinema (Panggung Bandaraya) for three days, as well as enjoy other activities that have been planned for KLIS2012. Animated film lovers will also get the chance to meet the winner of the 2011 Oscar for the Best Animated Short Film, who will be flown in especially for this event.

KLIS2012 welcomes the participation of local film makers who can participate through its website http://www.klisfestival.com. Entry is free, and KLIS2012 is offering a total of over RM50,000 as well as trophies and other prizes.
